Toy Package
Parsons | Package Design | Spring 17
This is one of the few projects where I actually created a physical prototype. I chose to work on hydrophobic sand because of the creative freedom it provides – as far as I know there isn’t a toy company that exclusively produces/sells the toy. Most of them just come in clear plastic containers/bags from vendors on online marketplaces (Amazon, Etsy).
Given that the target audience of this toy is mainly tweens, I decided to work on a packaging that’s a little more mature yet still fun: sand that comes in test-tube-shaped packages, with labels incorporating scientific elements.
I also invented and design a logo for a faux brand ‘Labmade’ to make the finished prototype look more authentic.

Labels
The labels were created in Photoshop. The 'H' in 'Hydrophobic' was replaced with the periodic symbol of Hydrogen to signify the relation to science (and water) in this toy.

Finished Product 1
I used recycled heavyweight cardstock to create a simple box, with cutouts to showcase the products.

Finished Product 2
The set contains 6 colorful tubes of hydrophobic sand that fits snugly into the box
